Been a While

Well, after a couple months the AleSmith Clone is a lot different. It's almost overpowering unless consumed at room temperature, when it is pretty damn good. Maybe my fridge just gets a bit too cold. I started a Racer 5 clone after that, which turned out pretty damn good. But it doesn't really taste like Racer 5. My current beer is a Promotional IPA recipe which I hopped up from AHB's original recipe. Just put it in the secondary with some Simcoe, and I will be adding some Amarillo hops in the next 3-4 days. Should turn out pretty well. I think I'll make the same recipe again next, but change the yeast a bit - hopefully Cry Havoc since I have talked about using it before, but haven't got around to it.
I would like to try brewing some sours, but I don' think I have the equipment to handle it, and Brett can be fickle. If I had some barrels to age stuff in it might be another matter. I just can't get the taste of Russian River's Consecration out of my head. We have La Folie from New Belgium available here in town at the Draught, but it's just not the same, although a good effort.
The Draught anniversary was great - lots of Hop Stoopid consumed. Great event all around, they always do things right. Been drinking Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale as my session beer lately since it's $11 a 12 pack at Spec's. It is lamentable I am forced to go there, but I can't argue with the prices. It's a shame Grapevine Market closed.
